Western Engineering Competition 2024

Western Engineering Competition is a massive event which gathers top engineering students of different fields from universities across Western Canada to compete against other schools at 10 categories such as Design, Programming, Consulting and Communication. In January 2024, the BCIT delegation, which consisted of 28 participants, went to Winnipeg to showcase their skills and knowledge competing against students from other universities. This year, BCIT managed to take 2 first places as well as an award for ranking third overall in the 2024 WEC.

Senior Design

In the Senior Design Electrical Engineering students Omar Kebedov, Garnett Goodacre, Kurt Querengesser, and Kieran MacCarron won first place. They tackled a complex engineering problem and delivered a working solution, demonstrating their ability to think creatively and work effectively under constraints.

Innovative Design

Meanwhile, BCIT's Mechanical Engineering students excelled in the Innovative Design category. Chris Vahi, Alan Palini, Tim TeWinkel, and Gordon Spring, also known as Team Frobenius Enterprises, claimed first place with their groundbreaking design – the PCB Factory. This machine simplifies the circuit board fabrication process, making it faster and more accessible to a wide range of users, from hobbyists to professionals.
