The WESST Executives Meeting is an annual three-day conference that brings together engineering student leaders from universities across Western Canada to discuss club management strategies, brainstorm future event ideas, and network with industry professionals.
During the event, delegates were engaged in roundtable discussions and various sessions focused on leadership, policy-making, networking and organizational initiatives. Various networking events let students from different universities meet, make friends and share experiences. Numerous industry experts shared their experiences and insights into the engineering field. Some of the session topics were: "Effectively addressing Micro-Agressions in Leadership", "Fast Track Your Future", "How to get a Co-op" and many others. A career fair was an excellent opportunity for attendees to connect with representatives from sponsoring companies, make new extremely valuable connections, ask questions, and gain experience from industry experts.
In addition to conferences, this event was full of fun activities that kept everyone entertained and brought us closer together. Delegates went to a few amazing restaurants of Victoria, enjoyed Trivia Night and explored the city in their free time. One of the coolest parts was the patch and scarf trading, a WESST tradition that everyone loved. Students usually gather in their hotel rooms, show their patch collections and offer trades with other students. The weekend wrapped up with an awesome gala, complete with speeches, dinner, music, and dancing, making it a memorable vacation for everybody.
